Hot water is a large part of the energy requirements for a home, up to 20% of total energy demand in Australia and 30% of home energy use in New Zealand, it is ideal an energy and cost-saving measure for a water heating solution to consume the least possible energy and still provide a satisfactory hot water load.

The purpose of the project is to investigate the potential for increased solar PV-generated electricity utilization using heat pump water heating (HPWH) prototype tanks and smart meter data.
