The aim of this project was to establish an optimised control strategy for a small-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) integrated in a renewable resource integrated microgrid.

The feasibility of the developed strategy was validated with the experimental hardware demonstration followed by the economic analysis with and without BESS. The experimental platform includes 3-phase LV power system network, PV emulator and inverter, battery and inverters, Siemens SICAM A8000 Microgrid controller, Modbus TCP/IP and serial communication setup between MGC and external devices, SICAM HMI, Siemens toolbox II software, etc.

This project delivered a control algorithm for efficient battery management to provide reliable, secure, stable and cost-effective microgrid dominated by renewable resources.
